Ingredients

For the ribs:

2 racks pork spare ribs, approx 2.5 lbs.

2 Tbsp chili powder

2 tsp sea salt

½ tsp black pepper

For the sauce:

1 Tbsp butter

1 small onion, grated

2 cloves garlic, minced

¼ tsp sea salt

¼ tsp black pepper

1½ cups ketchup

⅓ cup apple cider vinegar

2 Tbsp Worcestershire sauce

¼ tsp cayenne pepper

½ tsp hot sauce

¼ cup sugar

Oil for grill

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F.
  2. In a small bowl combine chili powder, salt, and pepper. Sprinkle mixture generously on both sides of ribs.
  3. Place ribs on heavy duty aluminum foil and wrap tightly. Place on rimmed baking sheet. Cook for 1½ hours.
  4. To prepare BBQ sauce, in a medium saucepan melt butter over medium heat. Add onion, garlic, salt and pepper. Saute for 3 - 4 minutes or until soft. Add ketchup, vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, cayenne pepper, hot sauce and sugar. Allow mixture to simmer, stirring occasionally, for 5 minutes. Remove from heat.
  5. Heat grill to medium-high heat (350°-375°F) and oil grates.
  6. Remove ribs from foil packets and generously slather with BBQ sauce. Grill for 3-4 minutes per side.
